Dear Mr. Henshaw

Dear Blog Readers,

I finished the book called Dear Mr. Henshaw written by Beverly Cleary.  It’s about a boy and his day-to-day life.  

Dear Mr. Henshaw is a book about a boy named Leigh Botts.  He often writes to Mr. Henshaw, his favorite author.  He explains his problems to him, even when Mr. Henshaw doesn’t want to hear about them.  Finally Mr. Henshaw insists that Leigh writes in a diary instead of sending everything Leigh writes to him.  Leigh writes about his problems and things he likes.  My favorite part of the book was when Leigh set up an alarm system in his lunch box to stop people from stealing things (like cheesecake) without him knowing.  Leigh’s parents are divorced, and he lives with his mother.  He lives in a little cottage next to a gas station.  He has a standard life; he just really likes to write!                                                                                                                                   

I don’t think that I am like Leigh that much at all.  I don’t like to write very much and I’m really not that good at it.  The only thing I can think of that we have in common is that my parents are divorced like his.

I think that this book is pretty good, but I don’t think that my friends would like it.  They don’t really like reading from letters and diary entries.  But I do!

Grown Up Note:  I would just like to say that I totally disagree with Grace when she says she doesn’t write well.  I think she’s doing a fabulous job!  For example, writing this book review in letter form to go along with the book itself….all her idea…and a brilliant one, in my opinion.  Just my two cents. 😉
