Have you ever wondered what’s in your burger, soda, or even that marshmallow? Some things are better off forgotten, but this is not the case with what you’re eating. Some people even go out and find answers. One person even wrote a book about it. That guy is Michael Pollan, and that book is The Omnivore’s Dilemma.
Michael Pollan went to see about corn, and how it took over the country, first. After that, he talked about the average American’s meal, which was really scary. Then, he talked about the industrial organic meal. This was really interesting to me because it is how we eat at our house. Fortunately, it is much better than the industrial meal. After that, he talked about the local farmer’s meal, which would be kind of hard to do around here. Lastly, he talked about the hunter-gatherer’s meal, which was my favorite.
Truthfully, it was really scary. You would never believe most of the awful things that “have” to happen for us to get a “decent” meal. Things like cows living in their own dung, chickens with not enough room to move, and animals eating other animals (through their feed!).
The good news is that there still are some places to get food that wasn’t bathed in chemicals before it got to your plate. Places like Polyface Farm, a family owned farm Michael Pollan went to.
If you want to know more, you can comment your question, or you could get the book. All I can say is that I’m really glad I stopped eating chicken nuggets! :^)
