The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963 Book Review

I just finished reading a new book, (well, new to me) called The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963. It’s about a little boy living in Flint, Michigan.

Kenny, probably the weirdest of all the Weird Watsons, is not exactly thrilled to be going to Birmingham for the summer. His life is already weird enough. His best friend, Rufus, doesn’t have to go to his grandma’s house! Besides, Byron, Kenny’s older brother, said Grandma Sands was a troll. But dad got the new Ultra-Glide, Mama’s already planned every second of the trip, and little sister Joetta will be asleep the whole time, so it can’t be that bad. But can this trip change Kenny’s life? Find out in The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963, written by Christopher Paul Curtis.

I really enjoyed this book, but I don’t think some of my friends would have. They like mysteries and fantasies.

My favorite character is Kenny, because of the way he sees the world. He explains his life to you in a way that just makes you laugh.

Happy reading!
