The Start of Civilization

Standard

For 6th grade social studies, Grace is learning about ancient civilizations. I figured a good place to start would be the beginning, so we began exploring what it takes for a civilization to form. We’re using activities from Hands on History…I did have to modify things a bit to accommodate a smaller “class.” 😉

For Grace’s civilization to have a successful beginning, she had to collect water from a “river” (the sink), build a shelter, and gather plenty of food through farming and hunting. She only had 45 minutes to complete all of her tasks or her civilization would surely fail before it even began.

So, did she manage to get her civilization off the ground? Of course she did! With 9 minutes to spare. 😀
