Grace and I have decided to spend more time this year focusing on our community and the good we can do within it.  I want Grace to learn that there are a wide variety of ways to give help within a community.  Some of our projects will involve spending a little money, but some certainly won’t.  I’ll be posting each of our projects here, so, hopefully, you can share in any ideas that work for you and your family.

August 31, 2012:  Delivering supplies to a local women’s shelter.  I used this fancy internet contraption to look up our needed information: the most needed items and the donation drop-off address.  We decided we could spend $20.00 on supplies and headed to our local dollar store (we wanted our money to go as far as possible).  We were able to buy several of each item on our list.  We then dropped all of the newly acquired supplies off at the shelter’s donation location. 🙂

November, 2012:  Stuffing envelopes for the Literacy Council’s newsletter.  Grace was a great helper when it came to preparing newsletters to be mailed!  She handled labels like a champ and is a master at sealing the tri-fold pages. 😀  More importantly, she learned another way to help out an incredible organization. 🙂

Helping out at the Literacy Council....stuffing envelopes is fun! :D

February 2013:  Giving to the Literacy Council in a different way…Grace donated lots of her books (some older, some newer) to their Book Nook which helps them raise money for their efforts.  (Pictures have mysteriously disappeared.)
